ROOKIE BOUNCER REFUSES KLOCK AT BERGHAIN FOR LOOKING TOO CASUAL
With Klock in front of him in a blue shirt, wearing training pants and seeing how he completely skipped the line, laughing in the midst of a fairly big group of woozy lads, Matthias had no mercy for Klock and refused him at the door for looking way too casual.
BEN KLOCK, one of Germany’s most celebrated techno DJs was refused at Berghain over the weekend. Klock, who was supposed to play a 3-hour early-morning set, flew in from Sweden after his gig at Into The Valley Festival.
He wanted to have a quick stop at home to refresh but soon realised he had not done laundry all week, so all his black shirts were dirty. All that was left was a blue shirt and the Australian training pants he once bought in the early nineties when he was still into gabber.
Since there was no time to waste, he quickly changed and headed for Berghain.
Skipping the line as fast as he could and joking around with some fans who came all the way from the UK, Ben ran into the rookie bouncer for the night.
Matthias Schultheiss was a recent hire not too familiar with the techno scene. To the contrary, Matthias came from Berlin’s local breakdance and hip hop scene.
With Klock in front of him in a blue shirt, wearing training pants and seeing how he completely skipped the line, laughing in the midst of a fairly big group of woozy lads, Matthias had no mercy for Klock and refused him at the door for looking way too casual. “Take a hike, you’ll probably have more fun at Hafenbar anyway.” the bouncer said.
Klock tried to explain “he was the DJ for the night“ and aimed to prove his point by grabbing the Klockworks USB stick from his back pocket.
Matthias looked puzzled and laughed. “Haha YOU are the DJ?? Where are your records man? Where is the case?”
At this point Klock realised it was a lost battle.
Matt Manchester, one of the lads who stood next to Klock explains: “It was a surreal sight to see how Klock was refused at the door. I have no clue if he ended up playing that morning or not. I personally did have a good time at Berghain because the bouncer liked the Adidas shirt I rocked. I guess you just have to be lucky at the door.”
